#298 - Dark Plum

2.5"x 3.5" (ACEO) oil on artboard sold
Holy contrast batman. I had a hard time photographing this because it's so contrasty. The light family and the dark family both have value and hue changes within them, but the two are so frickin far apart that it was hard to get the camera to pick that all up. Editing it in raw help recover that I think. Supposedly raw gives you an extra 2 stops in the dark and 1/2 in the light. When in doubt, underexpose eh?

Color and edges are so nice. Like the way the plum seeps into the background color.

Photoshop's Shadow/Highlight (under Image/adjustments) is a great tool for opening up the shadow areas in a dark photo. that said, love the plum!

Well, I don't understand any of that photo talk, but I like your painting!

And I wanted to tell you how much I appreciated your post on "What I've learned..." I am a new painter, and I have all those feelings you described. I appreciate your sharing with us.
