#332 - Pooped-Out Pups

18" x 18"   oil on hardbord   Sold

This was my biggest commissioned piece yet. The size was kind of daunting for me at first but I really liked the way it turned out (and most importantly so did the client). To keep up with my broad brush stroke technique I went out and bought the biggest brushes that I could swing at this puppy (no pun). It was lots of fun and I look forward to the next one. Never met a dog I didn't want to paint and these two tired cuties were no exception.

Side note for myself: It was surprising how much simpler and how much better (stronger) the composition became once I took out the background behind the pups and substituted a simple supporting color to help pull it all together and focus on the subject. Also, now this newly created color palette helped give it all a bit of an americana kind of feel that I'm digging. I think the framer keyed into this because I really like the frame he chose for it:

P.S. (or S.P. for Shameless Plug) I've always got time for another so don't be afraid to ask me about a commission folks. :)

Love these sweeties...just happened that I left my laptop up with this picture on it and looked over at it from 3 different distances. The painting looked a little different each time to me but the beautiful eyes and sleepy face still drew me in. Wonderful.

I love these paintings. My mom and dad are from the Northeast and always make a point to go out there every year to check out their favorite art exhibits and art shows. This year they brought a series of paintings a man had done of his dogs. This reminds me a great deal of those. Your use of planar analysis here is amazing. Really incredible work.

Beautiful! You show that less is more and that it is always best to suggest things rather than depict them with too much details. Very inspiring! Thanks for sharing.

I must say that this one is the result of great creativity. Also useful, plus cost is also less for this.
