#144 Loose Onion

6"x6" oil on masonite SOLD

This was just fun. It's just so much fun to describe form turn with planes of color. This came together loose and unselfconscious. I wish I could always paint so thoughtlessly (in the good way). Here's something I think is interesting. Compare it to this painting of an onion over 100 paintings ago: Red Onion. Feels like two different people to me.

Sweet one Jeff! It looks really onion-y.

Nice one. I like this a lot.
I do like it much better than the Red Onion. That one kind of seems to be spinning in space and this one is much meatier.

A great painting Jeff. I like the different colours you have got in the onion itself and in its skin. Painting with bold brush strokes but something so fragile as onion skin is not easy!

You are much more than a "beginner" painter. Onions are hard to do, well I should say nothing is easy. It's all work and you really worked this one. It's a great exercise to do the same objects over again. As artists we have a visual record of our progress. My favorite part is the warm, dark green falling into the dark cast shadow.
